WHAT IS THE BIOECONOMY?

The bioeconomy encompasses all the activities involved in the production and transformation of biomass, whether forestry, agriculture or aquaculture, for the purposes of food production (human or animal), biosourced materials and energy.  

It represents opportunities for our agricultural and forestry operations, and makes it possible to increase the competitiveness of our industries while providing sustainable solutions to the environmental and societal challenges we are facing today.

The bioeconomy is part of the broader framework of the green economy, i.e. an economy that respects the environment and uses natural resources more efficiently.

One of the cornerstones of the bioeconomy is the presence of territorialised biorefineries that use the local biomass resource as a raw material and valorises it in its entirety, both for food and industrial applications.
